CASA YAD

Casa YAD is located near Barcelona, but breathes purer air, oxygenated by the Collserola range that separates it from the city.

Contrary to what one might imagine about the habits of a family living in a 240 m² house, the inhabitants of Casa YAD did not have much “baggage” to store, and that is where the essence of the project lies: SIMPLICITY and EMPTINESS, resolved through a REFINED SELECTION OF MATERIALS.

The commission for the complete renovation of Casa YAD, undertaken by an Asturian-Taiwanese couple, came to us after a deep process of reflection on the part of its owners, who had a very clear sense of their needs and priorities.

Its inhabitants did not seem to ask of the house more than it could give us. With one exception: HEIGHT. The house, built during the '80s, was no more than 2.50 m high. The owners did not want to lose a single centimeter, and this forced us to design the services almost like a game of sudoku.

The ground floor opens entirely onto the rear garden, drawing its relationship with the outside even closer thanks to a large window-door more than 5 meters wide that runs from party wall to party wall.

The kitchen, dining and living spaces form a continuum that is distinguished within itself thanks to a selective change of materiality in the furniture and the flooring.

Respetando ejes y simetrías que otorgaran armonía al conjunto, nos vimos obligados a encajar el aseo de cortesía en unos escasos 90 cm2… que incluso pintado todo él de gris oscuro, no nos expulsa de su recinto.

La planta primera, renuncia a uno de sus antiguos dormitorios, para dotar al dormitorio principal de un generoso cuarto de baño.

Una planta bohardilla, mantuvimos el techo de madera y una biblioteca heredada de los antiguos propietarios, y cambiamos el pavimento para conseguir un despacho apacible y relajado.

De lenguaje sencillo, materiales puros y líneas simples, casa YAD también tiene (sobre todo, tiene) espacios contemplativos, a pesar del ritmo ajetreado de sus habitantes.
