CASA BORN

Casa BORN is a small 50 m² apartment to which its owner had decided to return after a long absence.

The home's original geometry, a U-shaped footprint with short, small legs, posed a challenge in answering the owner's requirements.

For her, the greatest luxury lay in SPATIALITY, grounded in order and built up through an exercise of paring down that values emptiness as a form of spatial richness in which to move about more fully: so we organized the flat around a large central space, where all of the home's life would take place, partitioning off only a laundry room (located in an appendage that was once an old terrace) and the bedroom, which would occupy one of the legs of the U.

In order to achieve the largest possible interior space, we resolved the kitchen in a single line, fitted with great storage capacity (5 linear meters), camouflaging the laundry-room door as if it were part of the same unit, and cutting two large openings into its run: one horizontal (where the work surface is resolved: sink, hob) and another vertical (framing the window facing the inner courtyard).

For the unit's design we chose an immaculate white and clad the two large openings in a very urban taupe grey, fitting for this small refuge set in the heart of Barcelona.

We reinforced the spatial unity by unifying the floor with a wooden boarding and painting the walls off-white.

La posición del cuarto de baño, permite un doble funcionamiento: como aseo de cortesía, y como cuarto de baño en suite.

La ducha, forma parte del vestidor, y pivota entre el dormitorio y el toilette, y recibe toda la luz del día al separarse de la habitación principal con una puerta corredera de cristal.

Casa BORN resulta ahora mucho más luminosa y fluida, favoreciendo las relaciones entre espacios, casi, sin necesidad de puertas.
