CASA MEQ
Like Barcelona, which before the Olympic Games lived with its back to the sea, casa MEQ had an impressive 50 m2 terrace which it completely ignored: only two small windows and a narrow door linked inside and outside.
Already on the first visit, it was clear to us that one of the most important objectives was to functionally, spatially and visually connect the terrace and the interior.
The family structure, accepted that the apartment had only two bedrooms, but with enough flexibility for a third one in anticipation of the arrival of a new member in the not too distant future.
We prioritized the spatiality of the day area: creating a fluid space, where kitchen, dining room, living room, in direct connection with the terrace, and articulated with the night area by a blue cube, clean, attractive and calm, which gives all the personality to an apartment originally quite bland.
This blue cube that vibrates to the respectful and cheerful rhythm of its inhabitants, houses in its interior multiple functions: air conditioning installation, two bathrooms, bedroom closets and a multifunctional closet overlooking the living room, and that even serves as a bench to sit on to take off your shoes when you arrive.
To achieve the intended fluidity between inside and outside, it was necessary to have a large window that leaves no wall surface to install radiators: Therefore, the heating solution was solved with radiators embedded in the step of the deck that go completely unnoticed and form a perfect barrier against the cold.
On the terrace, two large skylights that illuminate the first floor parking, hindered the flow: a garden raised to the height of the skylights’ cap, conceals the defect and creates a differentiating space to relax and sunbathe in the afternoon.
The rest of the project revolves around color, light and wood.
