PIN DE ROCALíS

On a 2-hectare property on the outskirts of Vilanova, we were asked to intervene in the surroundings of the house, to achieve “enjoyable” outdoor spaces that extend the interior limits. On the first visit, we clearly saw that the house was an entity set in the middle of a large piece of land, with no intermediate spaces and therefore no possibility of relating to nature in a “gentle” way.

We intervened in order to celebrate outdoor social culture, and we restructured the entire grounds and surroundings of the home, with the aim of creating communal indoor and outdoor spaces as the children and the family gatherings grow.

Our intervention ranged from the car parking to the rehabilitation of an old storehouse and chicken coop, which will be turned into a guest house. The design included semi-covered terraces adjacent to the house, a barbecue area, a sun deck, a children's play area, a storeroom, and bike circuits.

The foundation of the project is deeply rooted in the observation and understanding of its surroundings. The research and diagnosis phase involved long conversations with the owners. We took their needs, preferences and lifestyle into account above all else, as well as the warm and humid climate, the orientations and the construction traditions of the area.

The original architecture and the landscaping merge, culminating in the creation of communal outdoor spaces that work simultaneously as refuge, an object of pleasure, and a new way of relating to nature.

This summer we had already finished the outdoor gallery. When the owners made use of it, and we learned some of the stories created around the family lunches and dinners that took place in this new space, we became convinced that Pin de Rocalís will manage to become everything it set out to be.
