ALFORJA
Alforja is a small house that takes its name from the village where it is located.
Its location in the territory responds to the obligation to respect the footprint of the inherited construction; fortunately in the past it was built with bioclimatic criteria: the house could not have a better orientation… and views!
The simplicity of the program is reflected in the floor plan, through three strips that go from the most public part, facing south, and where a reed gallery that protects the house from the heat is located, to the night area, located in the northern part, where the two bedrooms open to the east and west. In the central strip, there is an open space for family and social relations, kitchen, dining room, living room, study.
The bioclimatic design is achieved with cross ventilation, the generous opening to the south, the controlled opening to the north, east and west, and the careful study of the depth of the porch; sized to allow the house to warm in winter with the contributions of solar radiation, while in summer it prevents it: generating shade and coolness.
Alforja has a plot of 20,000m2 of steep and terraced topography, and the house is located in the lowest third of the property.
The lack of utilities at the foot of the property, forced to design a self-sufficient house in terms of water supply, electricity, heating and sewage.
Thus, the house takes advantage of rainwater by storing it in a cistern of more than 200 tons.
Photovoltaic panels supply all the energy.
And a wood-burning fireplace provides all the necessary climatic conditioning during the winter months.
For the materialization, dry construction systems have been chosen, with a significant presence of wood and cork, all of them breathable and healthy solutions. The roof structure has been left visible in the interior: an attitude of constructive sincerity, but at the same time generates comfort and environmental warmth.
The large exterior carpentries of the south facade, dilute the limits between interior and exterior, generating a frank communion with the surrounding environment.
