A masterpiece of Modern Architecture

The Mies van der Rohe Pavilion is the reconstruction of the one that Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich designed and built as the German Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. It receives some 105,000 people each year, of whom 37% are Spanish and 57% foreign, with Germans leading at 7.5% of visitors.
Rafael Bermejo, writer for Arquitectura y Diseño, asks us why it remains so fascinating.
The Fundació Mies van der Rohe – Mies van der Rohe Pavilion holds that it is because it is «a key work in the history of architecture»
In particular, I was overcome when I first visited it -back in 1996- by the solemn harmony of the space and the subtlety of the design. Thank you Rafa and Arquitectura y Diseño for inviting us to this stimulating talk, where we were able to discuss design, philosophy and everything that a work of this caliber sparks in us.
