RACO
An agricultural plain dedicated to vineyards and bordered by the Mediterranean, dotted with masias, farmhouses, and indiano homes, shapes the scenic beauty of Sant Pere de Ribes.
An indiano home that has been awaiting its inhabitants for many years, silently telling stories of economic and social hardships, and, along with many others, leaving a unique architectural mark within the urban and rural landscape of the town.
A house that, despite undergoing numerous interventions over the years, has preserved its essence, defined primarily by brick arches and a stone facade that imbue the space with character.
An old winery on the ground floor, once surrounded by vineyards and now nestled between two trapezoidal courtyards. A spacious home with direct sunlight on the first floor.
Discovering it was like uncovering the space that had been waiting for us to bring a dream to life. It marked the beginning of a time for reflection, conversations, debates, discussions, and design.
Allowing the atmosphere to embrace us, we add our own imprint to the story of this space, which once crushed so many grapes.
We feel a connection with the indianos of that time. Their stories move us. We understand the later generations who returned to their homeland after adventures in the Antilles.
But over the past century, family, social, and work dynamics have undergone significant changes. Our intervention seeks to reinterpret this early 20th-century space of work and living into a 21st-century one.
On the ground floor, the former wine production and sales space will be transformed into a space for the creation and sale of art and architecture.
On the first floor, the old residence, once home to a large family, will become two apartments: one for a couple and the other for their guests arriving from various corners of the world.
We love designing new architecture, but when we found Racó, it felt right to become mediators between the past and the future, rather than disrupt the magic of this town. Here, everything will be both old and new.
Establishing our world to keep walking the path: putting down roots while lifting the mind.
